Bamboo Hill is the perfect place to relax and unwind. You can find us on Tioman Island an intriguing island of rainforest, sandy beaches and coral reefs in the South China Sea, off the east coast of peninsular Malaysia. Bamboo Hill is a place for those who don't want the standardized, impersonal, expensive service of a big resort nor the discomforts of a cheap beach hut. It is a place for those who want some of the spirit of the East and some of the standards of the West.

Set on a hill of giant rocks and flowering plants, all our chalets have verandahs with open views out to sea. Built of varnished wood in a traditional, airy Malaysian style, the chalets have windows that open from the roof to the floor and a ceiling fan to waft the air. They are simple, comfortable and beautiful. We supply a kettle with tea and coffee so you can start the day in a leisurely way on the veranda. There is a mosquito net for those who want to sleep with the windows open but this isn't necessary when the windows are closed since all the louvered doors and windows are meshed on the outside. (Please note that the mosquitoes are non-malarial on Tioman). We don't use air-con because we feel that being next to the sea on a breezy hill makes it unnecessary. Tioman is a place to be part of nature not cut off from it.

ABC's and Nazri's restaurants are right next door, serving inexpensive local and western dishes, fruit juices and beers. Both open at 8am for breakfast and offer fresh fish barbeques in the evenings.

We have an excellent lending library, book exchange are available in the reception. We keep a resource section of books on the flora and fauna of Tioman and brochures about other places to visit in Malaysia. We also have a water purifier so bottles of purified Tioman spring water are free for all our guests. Non-guests can re-fill bottles for RM1 and use the internet, phone and library service.

A traveling cot is available at no extra charge.

All our rooms have mosquito nets (let me repeat that the mosquitoes are non-malarial on Tioman), mosquito coils, insect sprays, sheets, blankets on request, towels, toilet paper and soap .They all have tea and coffee making facilities with a never ending, free supply. The attached bathrooms have only cold water but there is a shower, a basin, a mirror and a western-style toilet.
We do not service the rooms everyday but can do so whenever requested.

Visa and MasterCard are acceptable.
